What is the difference between a stole and a scarf? 

The distinction mainly lies in shape and dimensions. A stole is a long strip of flexible fabric, typically between 50 and 70 cm wide and 160 to 200 cm long, designed to be worn draped over the shoulders or loosely around the neck. A scarf, on the other hand, is smaller and often square: it is tied, folded, or slipped into a collar. A pashmina and a shawl are even wider variations of the stole, originally woven from pure cashmere. 

These pieces are also distinguished by their uses: where a silk scarf adds a touch of fantasy to a collar, a stole dresses an entire silhouette. Both have their place in a complete feminine wardrobe.
